Rooted in Community
When we launched BRCSC in 2021 as a social club, the goal was to bring together fellow snow sport-loving Burners and build a community that would embody the 10 Principles of Burning Man both on-and-off the mountain.
In just a few months, the club grew to over 700 members and ski season was ending, so we decided to shift our focus to bringing the joy of snow sports to the Playa. After only a few months to build something from scratch, we brought BRCSC to Burning Man 2022 as an official theme camp.
On-Playa, we hosted daily Après Ski parties, served drinks in a shady space to escape the sun, hosted snowball fights, and were a place to connect and make new friends, all while surrounded by snow-themed decor and interactivity. Through the process of building the original camp, we discovered dry ski mats and began working on our [initially long-term] project: the ski slope installation.
In 2023, we successfully brought the first-ever ski slope to Black Rock City! Over the course of the week, we sent hundreds of participants down the hill on skis, snowboards, sleds, and even a snow skate! Arguably best of all, our (Après) Ski Patrollers reported that there were zero serious injuries on the slope!
2024 saw us move to Center Camp Plaza as a featured camp and interactive art piece. The slope was built taller and longer, and we saw the first ever front flip landed on the slope! We introduced a jump feature, but discovered we need to make some adjustments for it to be properly useful.
As we move toward Black Rock City 2025, we’ve set our sights on a new Après Ski experience, as well as expanded art pieces in our frontage. We’re actively seeking campers to join us and bring their gifts to the Playa with us! If that sounds like you, fill out our application today!
